FCA Co-op Summer 2012 Ministry Opportunities

Impact 2012 Sports Ministry Internship
Bobbio Pellice, Italy (near Turin), London and throughout Europe

This 10-week summer internship is for college athletes and recent post-college athletes (June 1 - July 31, 2012). Interns will gain a global perspective of international sports ministry while developing character and leadership skills in this cross-cultural learning environment which combines classroom teaching with hands-on training and outreach. An option exists to stay for an Olympic Outreach in England.

Only 20 candidates from FCA will be selected--10 guys and 10 girls. Cost: approximately $3650 plus airfare. This 10-week summer internship is for college athletes and recent post-college athletes (May 23 - July 4, 2012). Interns will gain a global perspective of international sports ministry while developing character and leadership skills in this cross-cultural learning environment which combines classroom teaching with hands-on training and outreach.

  • FCA Mission Project - Football Coaches/Players; Cuiaba, Brazil;
    June 20– 27, 2012;Approximate Cost:  $2,500 (site cost and airfare).

    Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
    and South America Mission (SAM) are partnering in a short term summer project with the purpose of establishing a long term relationship with the Cuiaba Arsenal of the Liga Brasileira de Futebol Americano. There is a growing interest and enthusiasm for American football across Brazil. We will be conducting football clinics to teach fundamentals and position skills, as well as, facilitating coaching clinics to help train coaches. Our efforts will hopefully open doors to future football ministry opportunities throughout Brazil.   • FCA Soccer: Honduras— July 6-16, 2012
    Women's College Soccer.  Approximate cost, $1,800 (estimated $700 for airfare). 
    Join women college soccer players from all over the states on a faith-building mission trip in Catacamas Olancho and San Pedro Sula, Honduras. FCA Soccer partners with, Predisan a local medical clinic who has called FCA to use soccer as a tool for spiritual outreach in the villages. This will be our fourth trip serving, resourcing and a equipping the local women's league. FCA Baseball/Softball Missions Opportunities: 

Want a new outlook on life?  Come with us this summer!  Change of Place + Change of Pace = Change of Perspective.  Not only will teams have the opportunity to play baseball and softball in the local villages and cities, they will be able to interact with the people, play with the children, visit a local orphanage and deliver food to local villages.  Many have said they thought they were going on the trip to show others the love of Christ and came back realizing God used the people of the Dominican Republic to change their hearts and draw them closer to Him.

  • June 23-30, 2012 – Travel Baseball (13U/14U) and High school Baseball.  Maximum 60 participants.  Cost:  $1695.00 per person.
  • July 7-14, 2012 – Travel Baseball (13U/14U), High School Baseball and High School Softball.  Maximum 100 participants.  Cost $1695.00 per person.
  • July 14 – 21, 2012 - Travel Baseball (13U/14U) and High school Baseball.  Maximum 60 participants.  Cost:  $1695.00 per person.

Non-FCA International 2011-12 Ministry Opportunities

SportQuest Camps 2012

Kenya/Nigeria: June 5-30, 2012.
Men's basketball and soccer ages 18+.
Approximate cost, $4,000.
After a three-day training camp, you and your team will fly to Lagos, Nigeria for two weeks to help local SportQuest staff at a training conference for pastors, coaches, teachers, and leaders from Nigeria and Ghana. You will also be involved in doing sports ministry vision casting at different churches. You and your team will have the chance to visit local private and government schools to train students in soccer and basketball. After your ministry time in Nigeria, you and your team will fly to the Rift Valley in Kenya and live among and minister to the Samburu tribe. Teams will also have competitive matches.

Belgium: July 16-August 4, 2012.
Basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball/softball, dance, tennis, football.
Approximate cost, $2,795.
Experience a faith-building training camp in Belgium before splitting up into teams and helping lead two weeks of sport camps in your sport of expertise. Some teams will also have scheduled matches.

Ireland: June 26-July 14, 2012.
Basketball, soccer, baseball and golf. 
Approximate cost $2,895.
This trip to Ireland is open to those who are ready to connect with the local community, serve local churches, lead sport camps, encourage local Christian teens and share their faith in Jesus. Since no trip to Ireland is complete without seeing some of the most famous sights, the Cliffs of Moher and shopping in Dublin are on the itinerary! Golf and select teams will have competitive matches.  We will be joined by athletes from Southern Alabama FCA for this project.

Asia : June 25-July 23, 2012. CEI’s competitive team will compete in an international softball tournament. They will have a 6-7 day Training camp in Costa Mesa, California before heading overseas. Cost: $3,500 per person (Costs cover travel, transportation, lodging and food). Team Size: 15-18 persons

Southeast Asia: June 8-June 24, 2012. CEI’s clinic team will conduct softball clinics in a country beginning to develop softball. They will have a 2-3 days training camp in Costa Mesa, California before heading overseas. Cost: $3,000 (Costs cover travel, transportation, lodging and food). Team Size: 5-8 persons.

Middle East: June 15-June 30. CEI’s clinic team will conduct coaches’ clinics in a country beginning to develop softball. Cost: $3,500 (Costs cover travel, transportation, lodging and food). Team Size: 2-3 persons

More Than Gold—Olympic Outreach UK

More than 3,000 mission and service team members are needed to work with local churches throughout the UK during the 2012 Olympic Games. Opportunities range from serving in the local community at sports clinics and holiday clubs to serving at various Games venues in outreach or hospitality. Mission and service teams are made up of between 5 and 20 members who register through their team leader.  

London’s Olympic Games take place from 27 July – 12 August 2012. The Paralympics follow from 29 August – 9 September 2012. Three blocks of time are available for Mission and Service Teams to volunteer. Each lasts ten days, starts with training and orientation and ends with a celebration. Teams are welcome to register for more than one block. 

The dates are:

  • Block 1: Tuesday 24 July through Friday 3 August 2012
  • Block 2: Friday 3 through Monday 13 August 2012
  • Block 3: Tuesday 28 August through Monday 10 September 2012 (Paralympics)

What costs are involved?

All team members and leaders meet their own travel and living costs. Daily cost of living will depend on housing arrangements. There are three levels of accommodation and prices range approx $40US - $120US per person per night (includes breakfast and a packed lunch).
